Mamie Etta Boulware Scott
March 17, 1919 - October 23, 1963
"A Woman of Patience and Humility"
Mamie Etta Boulware was born on March 17, 1919 to James and Alberta Boulware. Mamie met and married David Scott and through this marriage they were blessed with nine children: Bobby, Evelyn, Cleveland, David Jr., Joe Louis, Nora Bell, Rannah, James Edward, and Carlie. Mamie was a very loving and talented woman. She was a gifted vocalist and she sang gospel on a Sunday Morning radio show in Camden, SC. Mamie not only sang and had an excellent voice, but she liked to rhyme words with a little beat. If she were still living today, she would be considered a rapper - MC Mamie. Mamie was known to be a dedicated and kind individual, not only to her immediate family but to her in-laws as well. Mamie always made you feel at home when you went to visit her. She was an excellent cook and her meals were always prepared with love. Mamie was a pretty stylish woman who had a flair for nice clothes and make-up. She had a nice figure and she liked to look her best when she attended church or when she went in to town. | ![]() |
Although she died at the young age of 44, she still looked good to have had nine children, took care of a disabled husband and maintained a loving and wholesome household. She instilled in her children the love of God and to be honest and have good morals. She realized that she had it hard coming up and there were occasionally hard times in her adult life, but she still maintained hope. She always kept a smile on her face and even when she was going through, she was a strong Woman of God. Nevertheless, she loved the Lord and was a stern individual and she had no problems with setting you straight.
Mamie had a sincere love for her brothers and sisters. Her household was always filled with love and laughter and her nieces and nephews loved going to her home, because it was like a holiday. Children were never bored at Aunt Mamie's home because there were lots of children to play with and enjoy. Everyone knew once they were at Mamie's home, the fun was going to commence. The parents would reflect about their childhood experiences and the children would enjoy playing and eating Uncle Turney's cakes.
Mamie's children seem to have her same attributes: kind hearted, loving and generous. Mamie's attributes are still being displayed and exhibited by her children, grandchildren and great grand's. She lived such a short life, but she left a tremendous amount of impact on future generations.
Mamie went to be with the Lord on October 23, 1963.
