Boulware Family

Hilliard Boulware

December 25, 1913 - August 19, 1997

"A Man of Class and Sophistication"

Hilliard Boulware was born in Kershaw County, South Carolina on December 25, 1913 to James and Alberta Boulware.  Hilliard, affectionately known as "Goonche," received his primary education in the Kershaw County School system and became a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church at an early age.  His friends called him the "Big Y".

On December 26, 1937, Hilliard married James Etta Peay of Fairfield County, South Carolina.  Together they conceived, nurtured and educated four children: Cora Lee, Carrie Etta, Hilliard Jr. and Hurley.  Hilliard was a loving father to his children and niece Alberta "Pugie" Scott Cook.  He was also a hard working father who instilled the same values in his children.  He was a "no nonsense individual." Hilliard was direct and he supported his family both financially and morally.

Hilliard loved driving Buick's and he always kept a nice car, a beautiful home and a lovely manicured yard.  His children and niece (Alberta) knew him to be a strong disciplinarian and a man of his word.  He advocated quality education for his children and encouraged them to be the best in their chosen vocation.  Hilliard, like the rest of the Boulware's, loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings.

Hilliard was a deep thinker and always pondering over situations before giving an answer.  Hilliard was the type of individual that either liked you or disliked you, and he was able to see a person's true motives.  If you were his friend, he was yours, and if you were his foe, he left you alone.

In 1948, Hilliard and his family moved to Norwich, Connecticut where he worked as a warehouseman at Yantic Grain, Inc., and was both a hard worker and dedicated employee. He retired in 1975.  Hilliard attended A.M.E. Zion Church in Norwich, Connecticut until his death.

Hilliard went on to be withthe Lord on August 19, 1997.
