"A Man of Authority and Passion"
Flemon Boulware was born May 10, 1912 in Kershaw County, South Carolina. "Man" as he was known by all of his family members and friends was the fifth child born to Alberta and James Boulware. Flemon was the first of his siblings to move from Kershaw County, South Carolina to Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a loyal supporter to his family and friends both spiritually and financially. He always promoted strong family values and devotion not only to his parents, but other family members as well. He was the backbone to his family and there was nothing that he would not do for his sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family came to him for advice and guidance; he was never too busy for them. |
As a young boy growing up in Kershaw County, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and socializing with his peers. He was always well liked because of his versatile personality and got along well with others. He was also known for being out spoken, honest, and a direct individual. One of his favorite sayings was, "If you don't work, you don't eat." He was never at a lost for words; he was a quick thinker and a true philosopher. He enjoyed verbal challenges among his friends and associates, especially in The Word of God.
At an early age he accepted Christ as the Rock Hill Baptist Church in Ridgeway, South Carolina. Throughout his Christian life he served as Deacon at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was also an active citizen in his community. He frequently shared the crops fromhis garden with his family, friends and even strangers. He enjoyed the outdoors and being in touch with nature.
On December 18, 1941, Flemon was joined in matrimony to Martha Bennett and was blessed with five children: James Roosevelt, Lehester, Douglas, Willie James and Carol Ann. His children remember him for living up to his nickname "Man." He was in essence the strong black man depicting love, courage, strength and responsibility for his entire family.
Flemon went on to be with the Lord on January 5, 1992 as a result of heart failure.
