Carlie Boulware Murphy
April 17, 1907 - November 28, 1970
"A Woman of Class and Eloquence"
Carlie Boulware Murphy was born April 17, 1907 in Fairfield County to James and Alberta Boulware. She attended school in the Longtown township community. Carlie married Jake Murphy December 29, 1929. There were no children born in this marriage, but Aunt Carlie had a love for all her nieces and nephews. There was never a time she came to visit that she would not bring all the children money, presents or both. Carlie loved to travel and visit her family. She loved her family and there was nothing that she wouldn't do for them. Every time she came to visit the family, she would always be loaded down with lots of gifts. Carlie was somewhat like her mother, Mama Alberta, in that she loved to control situations and people. Acturally, she was a very authoritative individual and being the eldest living child, her brothers and sisters listened to her. | ![]() |
Carlie was a lady ahead of her times with vision and a flair for fashion. If she were living today, she would wear designer suits, shoes, hats, bags and accessories. Carlie was stylish in her day and age and was a very attractive woman. She never went anywhere without her make-up and her red lipstick. She kept her nails manicured and her husband, Jake, gave her pedicures. She had it going on. It has been said, when she was working on the farm, she went to the fields stylish. Every time the family saw her, she had on a fashionable outfit, high heel shoes, stockings, red lipstick and she always popped her chewing gum. Her nieces often would say,"I want to be like Aunt Carlie when I grow up." In other words, they were saying "I want to shop until I drop."
There were times that Carlie would be abrupt and short tempered with the children. Nevertheless, Carlie will always be remembered for being the aunt who kept her nieces and nephews in line when they visited her, ruled your home when she came to visit you, wore stylish clothes, was an excellent cook and housekeeper and loved both God and family deeply.
Carlie Boulware Murphy went on to be with the Lord on November 28, 1970.
